About my work….
My sculpture is influenced by my early experience in modern dance.
I believe my pieces create a sense of movement.
Isabel Shaw was raised in Greenwich Village, NYC during the period it was an artists and writers haven. She studied painting and drawing with artists such as Moses Soyer and Robert Gwathmey. After receiving a BFA from Bard College, she attended The School of Visual Arts and Cooper Union nights while working as a graphic designer during the day.
She has worked in a studio within her home since 1970 but the professional part of her career didn’t start until 1974 when she won first prize for sculpture at the Beaux Arts final for all Westchester County, NY.
From her early work, which was mostly carved in wood, to the current in bronze, she has stylized the human form caught in mid motion. The degree of abstraction depends on the period when the sculpture was done.
Her work has been represented in galleries in New York City, Denver, CO and in London, England and has appeared in many others across the United States. She is included in private collections in the United Stated, Europe and Asia.
