Frank Mann is a painter, draughtsman, and printmaker. Born in Washington,
D.C., he studied with the painter Gene Davis before graduating from George
Washington University (B.F.A.). After moving to New York, he received an
M.F.A. from Pratt Institute. For several years he worked as a studio assistant
to Dorothea Rockburne and directed several not-for-profit art organizations
in New York City. He writes occasionally on contemporary art. The recipient
of numerous grants and awards including the Lorenzo Il Magnifico Medal in
painting of the Florence Biennale in 2001, he has exhibited widely in Europe,
including exhibitions in Paris, Barcelona, Amsterdam, and Berlin, in the
United States, including New York, Seattle, Miami and Washington, D.C., and
in South America, in Buenos Aires and Sao Paulo.
Mann has been a guest lecturer at the Corcoran School of Art, Washington,
D.C., Penn State University, Reading, Pa., Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, N.Y.
and the Parsons School of Art and Design, N.Y. His work is in numerous public
and private collections in the United States and abroad, including the Museum
of Modern Art, Buenos Aires, the Museum of Contemporary Art, Nice, France,
the Guggenheim Museum, New York, Nationalgallerie, Berlin, and the Museum
of Modern Art, New York. He is a member of several professional organizations
including the New York Artists Equity Association, the American Society of
Contemporary Artists, and the Drawing Society, all of New York City. He is
listed in the Flash Art 'Art Diary International' 2004, the 25th Edition
of 'Who's Who in American Art' 2004, and the 22nd edition of 'Who's Who in
the World' 2005. He lives and works in New York City.
